“Digital Divide”

Leroy Jones, senior manager with Dell, Inc. and two time recipient of Career Communications Group’s Black Engineer of the Year Award, spearheaded a grassroots effort to help bridge the “Digital Divide” in Austin’s financially disadvantaged communities by instituting the Austin Black Family Technology Awareness Program. The program launched in 1999 on the campus of Huston-Tillotson in East Austin and is now held at the Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex hosting more than 400 attendees.

Mr. Jones serves on a council with numerous distinguished leaders in his field. Together they collaborated to bring their influences within the corporate community in order to produce an outstanding program and participation from a number of corporations within the community.

Mr. Jones brings forth a wealth of corporate and community knowledge. He worked for Compaq and served as one of its first engineers then moved onto Dell, Inc. Mr. Jones’ leadership skills, education, experience and commitment to the community have made him an invaluable asset to the Austin area.
