Artificial intelligence (AI) is the potentially the most disruptive technology innovation of our time, often compared in importance to electricity and the Internet. While many of the ideas and even algorithms for AI have been around for as many as six decades, it is only in the six years that the excitement about AI has exploded. This is driven by the amazing capabilities enabled by a branch of AI called deep learning. Deep learning is enabling computers to reach and exceed human potential in many areas, from image recognition to mastering complex games such as Go. The newsworthy achievements are reported in the media most every day, and there are many more practical applications in business, science, and government than are reported in the news. For a review of the emergence, importance, and future of AI, please see the slides, video and recap Austin Forum event on AI from March 2018.
While deep learning is based on complex algorithms and enabled by powerful computing processors such as NVIDIA GPUs (Graphics Processing Units, but they do much more than graphics now!), using deep learning is actually becoming quite simple—also due, in large part, to companies like NVIDIA making great software to harness the power of deep learning more easily. Thus, you too can learn how to use deep learning, without having to master the underlying algorithms, and begin to consider how it can revolutionize your company, organization, or research.
The Austin Forum on Technology and Society is pleased to host this special Easy Introduction to Deep Learning Workshop, taught by NVIDIA and hosted by Galvanize Austin.
