Q&A

Smartphones, sensors, and a wide array of computing technologies and devices are now pervasive in our personal and professional lives, but connectivity among these devices and to online resources in distance data centers has almost been taken for granted. However, the COVID-19 pandemic created a new culture of work-from-home/anywhere, and new requirements for remote learning/teaching (and most everything else). We became acutely aware of our dependence on connectivity, weaknesses in performance and reliability, and gaps affecting those without access. Now, as we emerge from the pandemic with a renewed appreciation for reliable, performant connectivity for everyone, we are also witnessing the emergence of new wireless communications technologies—5G, WiFi 6, satellite-based networks, and more--that promise to help address limitations in performance, availability to all devices, weaknesses in coverage, and gaps in access. Join us for this comprehensive look at connectivity as the fourth utility and how these new technologies can wirelessly connect everyone and everything (computers, sensors, devices, instruments, etc.), everywhere, as we build more connected homes, schools, buildings, mobility, cities, and more.

We are excited to host our first hybrid event since the start of COVID-19. If you are fully vaccinated, please join us at a limited capacity at the Austin Central Library located on W. César Chávez St. If you have not received both doses of your COVID-19 vaccine, or would prefer to watch the event online, we invite you to stream the live event on Zoom. All attendees will need to register on Eventbrite and let us know if you plan to attend in-person or virtually. Both online and in-person attendees will have the opportunity to network and ask the speaker questions.

We are so excited to resume having a live audience as well as our online attendees that we have planned a special performance. Austin musician Amy Atchley will perform at 5:45 until we begin the formal presentation at 6:15. Online and in-person attendees can still network during this time, but we hope you’ll enjoy the amazing Amy Atchley as well!
