Kicking Off 2026 with a Growing Team and Big Vision

Happy New Year, Austin!

As we launch into 2026, the Austin Forum on Technology & Society is more energized than ever to serve as the city's premier platform for exploring the technologies that are reshaping our world. From the rise of agentic AI and physical robotics to breakthroughs in quantum computing and life sciences, the pace of change is accelerating. To take our impact to the next level, we are thrilled to welcome two of Austin’s powerhouse community leaders to the Austin Forum team.

Hugh Forrest, longtime leader of SXSW who oversaw its growth into one of the most exciting and inspiring creative events in the world, joins us on February 1 to drive our growth and programming, including the revival of our podcast. Hugh’s vision, experience, and relationships in the local and global tech community will be instrumental in expanding our reach and storytelling.

Amber Gunst, a former CEO of the Austin Technology Council who oversaw its growth into one of the premier tech organizations in Austin, is stepping in to lead our sponsorship efforts. With her deep roots in the local ecosystem, Amber will be focused on building the partnerships and resources we need to keep the Austin Forum growing and thriving for years to come.

Hugh and Amber will be instrumental in our growing programming and impact. I cannot express how excited I am to work directly with two Austin tech landscape legends to make the Austin Forum the premier technology community in Austin (and beyond!).

While our team and programming are growing, our mission remains the same: to bring you the latest information and perspectives from technology experts and local thought leaders. Attendance at our events grew substantially in 2025, and for 2026, we have plans for new events and activities with a diverse range of formats designed to spark connection and curiosity, including:

  • Presentations on the state of the different technologies and their potential for impact, risks, and future.

  • Conversations, panels and debates on the ethics and societal impact of new technologies, including rebooting the popular Austin Forum Upload podcast.

  • Hands-on workshops to build practical skills and adopt new technologies with a strong foundational understanding and perspective.

  • Online book discussions (including upcoming sessions on Abundance and Enshittification).

  • Networking events where the best people and ideas in Austin come together.

What’s Next?

We invite you to join us for our first events of the year as we dive into the trends that will define 2026. Whether you are a technologist, executive, educator, or curious citizen, there is a place for you here.

Stay tuned for our updated event calendar, the relaunch of our podcast and new ways to get involved in the conversation. Let’s make 2026 the most innovative year yet for the Austin tech community!
